Like most camps, the kids at camp Ho Mita Koda do a lot of swimming, play volleyball and archery, and boldly scale the usual new heights. Campers at Ho Mita Koda have diabetes. Kids feel better knowing that at this camp there are other kids out there like them. Dr. Douglas Rogers is a Cleveland Clinic diabetes expert. Children that have diabetes, if it is not taken care of are at a much higher risk for developing problems with their eyes, kidneys and nerves. Along with having fun at camp, kids learn how to avoid those serious problems with lessons on what to eat and how much medication to take. clevelandclinic.org

A lot of severe diabetic foot infections come from a minor irritation of the skin, but can also develop in the bones or muscles. Most of the time diabetics don\’t even bother looking at their feet unless they feel pain. This is a very dangerous habit to get into.
The biggest cause of amputation of the lower limbs (other then an accident) is from diabetes. Why is this so? Severe foot infections caused by the lack of daily foot inspections.
Why is it so important to check your feet?
It is important because as diabetes keeps going, your body\’s circulation declines and you have less feeling in your legs and feet. It can also be from nerve damage. With this happening, it is very easy for you to get an infection from a cut on your foot or even stubbing your toe and not even knowing.
What can you do to prevent foot infections?
Daily foot inspections is the number one place to start. Watch and be sure to keep your feet clean and moisturized. Cracks from dry skin can be a perfect environment for infection.
Keep your toenails trimmed. Make sure not cut them too short, you might accidentally clip some of the skin around your toe nail, leaving it exposed to dirt causing infection.
How to tell if you could have a foot infection?
You will see swelling and redness around the infected area. Pain? Not every diabetic foot infection will have pain with it due to the lack of sensation many diabetics suffer. Having a severe infection, you might see pus and possibly a black-n-blue color around the area of infection.
What is a good way to treat a foot infection?
First of all clean the infection the best you can. Then visit your doctor, as most infections will need antibiotics. Most likely the doctor might need further tests to ensure the infection hasn\’t gone deeper (like into the muscle or bone.)
If a diabetic foot infection is not treated properly and timely, amputation may be your last option if an option at that.

From Toronto – Using Nintendo Wii may help stroke patients repair their motor function, according to a report presented at the American Stroke Association’s International Stroke Conference. Researchers randomized 20 stroke survivors to use the Wii or to play recreational games such as cards. They found that the gaming system produced no adverse effects and actually resulted in significant improvement in motor function. And finally, from San Antonio – According to another report presented at the American Stroke Association’s International Stroke Conference, people with certain genetic variations find their risk of aneurysm increase significantly with smoking. Researchers found that people who had one particular genetic variation were up to 48% increased risk of suffering an aneurysm. When these people smoked an equivalent of a pack of cigarettes a day for up to 20 years, however, this risk was raised more than five fold.
Dreamsicle (foster cat) returned by former adopter when he developed diabetes mellitus. You can see he is down on his hocks, with diabetic neuropathy (a condition caused by poorly regulated diabetes). I practiced a protocol called “tight regulation” with a low-carb canned diet and PZI (insulin), and his neuropathy improved (and he actually stopped being diabetic). Dreamy also stars in another video of mine, illustrating how I test his blood sugar. www.youtube.com If you find this video useful, please provide a ranking so others may be referred to it.
